Our Project Needs Your Support

This week could be the week that you finally get around to addressing one of those tasks that you have been putting off for ages – writing or updating your Will. These days, there seems to be a lot of focus on a memorable ‘send-off’, but a discerning gift in your Will could leave a really lasting legacy that makes a clear statement about your passion and values.

The importance of writing a Will is self-evident, ensuring that you first and foremost provide for your family and friends without any legal challenges or needless sacrifices to HMRC. And after seeing to that priority, perhaps making a final gesture of support to a charitable cause that you have supported loyally during your lifetime. Or, indeed, this could even be a first and final gift that you make to Pipal Tree. Even a modest 1% of your estate could still have a massive transformative impact on our work in Nepal.

In our nine-year existence, Pipal Tree has never received a gift from a Will, although we know of some supporters (myself included!) who’ve given the charity a little mention. All you really need to do that is our name and charity registration number (1159770), but, of course, we’d always recommend consulting a solicitor to ensure that the content of the remainder of your Will is watertight and above challenge.

This year, Pipal Tree, became a member charity of ‘Remember a Charity’ which promotes charitable gifts in Wills. This organisation offers a wide range of support and advice throughout the year, including running a week-long ‘Remember a Charity Week’. And, you’ve guessed it, it’s this week!

To launch the campaign, Remember a Charity has devised a ‘Great Map of Willanthropy’ that shows how gifts in Wills can support charitable causes and projects around the world. Check out the map through clicking on the image below and see the range of legacy options available in Nepal. Spoiler alert – Pipal Tree is the only charity that offers these Will opportunities in Nepal.

Accompanying the Map, Remember a Charity has released a fabulous consumer-facing report, entitled ‘A Nation of Willanthropists’. The report serves to highlight the importance of legacies for a growing number of charities – featuring case studies, trends in charitable giving and an open invitation to join the Willanthropy movement.
