Our Project Needs Your Support

Our financial year ended on 31 December 2025 and, although the final figures are still subject to audit, it is already clear that last year was extraordinary in terms of both income and expenditure. Over the past two years our income growth has been close to exponential, following a period of relative stability during and immediately after COVID. This dramatic upwards trajectory is illustrated in the graph below.

This dramatic increase in income and expenditure has translated directly into greater impact on the ground in Nepal which is precisely what is needed at a time of accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss. The reasons for this shift in our fortunes are largely twofold. First, we have seen a significant increase in donations in Wills, particularly in the past year. Second, we have made highly effective strategic use of The Big Give, through which donations from individual supporters are powerfully complemented by grants from foundations and corporate partners. Last year, 68% of our total income was channelled through The Big Give.

Which brings me neatly to our next Big Give campaign – Earth Raise (formerly the Green Match Fund), which will run for one week from 22nd April. It may seem premature to be highlighting an April campaign in January, especially so soon after our very successful Christmas Challenge. However, experience shows that early preparation is essential if a Big Give campaign is to realise its full potential.

We are therefore now inviting pledges from individuals, foundations and corporates – pledges that can ultimately be effectively quadrupled in value. This is because an initial pledge can be matched by a ‘Champion’ from within The Big Give’s own supporter network, with the combined amount then matched again during the public online phase of the campaign in April. A pledge made now is the key that unlocks this process, transforming a gift or grant into a high-impact investment. The minimum pledge is £100, with nothing payable until after the campaign closes on 29th April. Registering a pledge takes just a minute and can be done via this link.

What are we fundraising for? Our target is £200,000, which requires £50,000 in pledges, to be split equally between our urban and rural reforestation programmes in Nepal. This total includes 10% towards essential Pipal Tree support costs such as fundraising, monitoring and evaluation, mentoring and communications. Further details can be found on the campaign page here.

There’s more: Through this campaign we are also seeking a major donor who shares our ambition and is willing to step forward and become a lead partner with us on a bold journey towards an entry for The Earthshot Prize 2030. Are you – or your company or foundation – interested in aligning with a charity that is clearly on the rise and pursuing a transformative, scalable vision for environmental restoration? If so, we have an exciting (and at this stage, confidential) idea we would love to discuss with you. Who knows, you might one day join us on stage as a finalist for the world’s most prestigious environmental prize…
