Training marginalised women
Overview

Many, if not most, women in rural communities are condemned to remain in poverty, eking out a living as day labourers, often working in the fields. They might have dropped out of school early and entered child marriage. So, they have no education, no skills and no hope for the future.

Through our partner, Lily’s Leaves, we are changing that by offering training in basic tailoring. Each course has 16 places for six months’ training. At the end of that each graduate is awarded a sewing machine and table, tools and materials and a small start-up grant. This allows her to set up in business either as an individual or with one or two others.
