Sapling nurseries
Overview

At the start of our Urban Nature Programme Lily’s Leaves was procuring its saplings from two sources; timber-producing species that were donated free by the Department of Forestry and fruit/nut/flowering species that had to be purchased from private nurseries. This changed in 2025 when Lily’s Leaves set up two sapling nurseries in Kathmandu valley.

  • We can now plan the species we wish to plant in our forests rather than taking what is available, This includes the opportunity to cultivate rare and
endangered species that might have become locally extinct in Kathmandu valley
  • As a social enterprise, Lily’s Leaves can generate an income through sale of saplings to other organisations and the general public
  • Of course, this provides a valuable new training possibility and employment to the young deaf women whom we help through Lily’s Leaves.
